Edisto Beach State Park

Edisto Beach State Park

Edisto Beach State Park is not what most of us would think a park should be. It’s not a left over piece of land overlooked by developers. It’s not a place to visit just when the budget is thin or when there is nothing else to do. It’s not just for locals, or just for visitors.

Edisto Beach State Park is a vast oceanfront campground on a beautiful palmetto-lined beach, famed for shelling. Fortunately for you shelling is just one highlight. This beachfront park offers more fun than the busiest vacation destinations.

There are a number of lodging arrangements inside the park. Seven cabins are completely furnished, heated, air-conditioned, and supplied with bath and bed linens, basic cooking and eating utensils, coffee maker, microwave, a television and each includes a screened-in porch. The two bedroom version can accommodate up to six people each and includes a queen size bed in each bedroom and a fold-out sofa in the living room. Two of the cabins offer three bedrooms with a queen bed in each.

For those of you looking for pure camping, you will find the very best in Edisto Beach State Park. There are 64 sites which are oceanside, while 33 sites are located near the salt marsh. Five sites are walk-in tent sites.

Did You Know?

Edisto Beach State Park, rich in Native American history, and was donated to the South Carolina Department of Parks and Tourism in 1935 by Edisto Company. Development of the park was completed shortly after by the Civilian Conservation Corps, which was a New Deal program created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The program was designed to provide employment during the Great Depression while addressing needs to conserve natural resources. The “CCC” played a large role in developing a lot of the state’s parks, and a number of buildings built in the 1930’s are still in use today.
