4th of July Festivities

edisto beachHappy Independence Day!

If you’re in the area today then you’ll definitely want to go to the beach at approximately 1:56 p.m. to watch the Salute from the Shore fly over.

The flyover will go over every inch of shore along the South Carolina coast and will feature vintage military aircraft. Barry Avent of Bennettsville, South Carolina will lead the fly over. This year there won’t be any F-16s due to sequestration, but the vintage aircraft will more than make up for it.

Try to wear red, white, and blue while standing on the beach to watch as the planes fly over.

If you want to do something else today that doesn’t involve the beach, head out to the Edisto Beach State park located at 8377 State Cabin Road from noon to 2 p.m. to feed aquarium animals. This event is fun for the whole family including little children.

What 4th of July party would be complete without fireworks? While fireworks are illegal in the town of Edisto Beach, if you want to see some then head into Charleston. The USS Yorktown will be the most action-packed place to go this year for anyone looking to see the sky ablaze with pyrotechnics.

The ship is located at 40 Patriots Point Road in Mount Pleasant. More than 25,000 people are expected to attend the event which will feature food vendors, music, and an incredibly show above the harbor.

If you don’t want to drive all the way in to Mount Pleasant, keep an eye out over the water and nearby fireworks displays can usually be seen (in places where it is legal).

As for the weather today it should be much drier than it has been the past couple of days. The high for today should be around 84 degrees with a low of 77 degrees. There is a 30 percent chance for some rain and isolated thunderstorms, but hopefully they still stay out of the area.

Have a safe and happy holiday!
