Why We Love Edisto’s Christmas Parade Every Year
Its hard to believe that in just one week the Edisto Christmas Parade will be upon us. If this is your first time experiencing the parade, get ready for a treat.
From 2-3:30 p.m. (or whenever the last float goes by) on December 12, various floats will make their way down Palmetto Boulevard. Passengers on the floats will throw candy at those lining the street, so be sure to bring along a bag if you plan on watching the parade.
After the parade concludes, join Mayor Jane Darby at the Horizon gas station for the annual lighting of the Christmas tree.
There will also be an oyster roast the Coffee Shop on Edisto located above Edisto Watersports. This event will feature live music from David Crawford and all you can eat oysters. Tickets are $25 each or $40 per couple. Beer and wine will also be available for purchase.
If youve been around before for the boat parade, this year it is still undetermined if there will be a parade as last year only had one entry, but if you are interested, give Edisto Watersports a call at 843-869-0663.
This parade marks the official start to the holiday season on Edisto Beach. If youve never spent the holidays at the beach, heres what youre missing out on.
To begin with, you wont have a white Christmas. Instead, youll likely wake up to seeing the Atlantic sparkle in the early morning sun. You might even decorate a palm tree. The best thing is that having Christmas at the beach means that you will be a part of a small group of people that choose to spend the holidays at the best place on Earth.
On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day many restaurants and shops will be closed, but afterwards, Edisto operates much like it does the rest of the year. This is the perfect time to come down and experience the island during the slowest time of year. It provides visitors with the opportunity to spend some time fully appreciating not only friends and family, but the natural beauty of the island.
As for this blog writer, Ill spend the holidays enjoying mass in the morning and then spending the rest of the day out on the boat. After all, what better way to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year than to be out on the water?
