The Waterfront Restaurant

Locally owned and operated by island natives Scot and Susan Flowers, The Waterfront Restaurant at 136 Jungle Rd. dishes up fresh, delectable seafood prepared with love by a family with roots four generations deep Edisto seafood industry. Growing up, Scot was helping run his family’s seafood shop or working on his dad’s shrimp boat. In 2001, he decided to share his family’s history and passion for great food and opened The Waterfront. Although it has since moved and is no longer located on the waterfront, this casual, family-friendly establishment still serves incredible seafood featuring local shrimp and oysters harvested by Scot’s family, which grace their menu nightly. They are open Monday-Saturday for lunch and dinner and brunch only on Sundays. 

The Waterfront’s menu and specials rotate seasonally as part of their effort to provide fresh seafood and produce.  

Dinner has a host of seafood favorites, including Alaskan Snow Crab Legs, Pecan Fried Flounder, Shrimp & Grits, and the Black Sesame Salmon, baked and topped with an orange sesame glaze. Online reviewers gush over the scallops, which you can have by themselves or simmered in a cream sauce and served on a bed of fettuccine noodles with shallots, roasted tomatoes, and bacon in the form of their Scallops St. Pierre entrée. Their Lowcountry Stirfry is a tasty mix of grilled shrimp or chicken with sausage, onions, and peppers sauteed with spicy cabbage and served over rice. 

They also have their rendition of the seafood combo platter, allowing you to select different combinations of broiled flounder, grilled shrimp, broiled scallops, fried oysters, or a crab cake. Or you can try them all in the Flowers’ Feast. All seafood specialties and dinners are served with fresh vegetables, comprised of seasonal vegetables sourced by local King’s Farm, owned by Susan’s parents.

Although seafood is the centerpiece, The Waterfront offers plenty of salads, pasta, sandwiches, and steaks for those who prefer something different. There’s an enticing Edisto Burger dressed in a candied bacon horseradish sauce, and a Pimento Burger layered in that eponymous Lowcountry cheese. 

For your appetizer, order the Fried Green Tomatoes, bedded over creamy grits with their remoulade sauce, or tantalize your taste buds with the Firecracker Shrimp, deep-fried and tossed in a sweet and spicy cocoa loco Siracha sauce and topped with coconut. Or scarf down a cup or bowl of their delicious She Crab Soup. 

Patrons highly recommend saving room for a sinfully sweet dessert and ordering the Death By Chocolate cake.

Stop in for Sunday brunch to enjoy a Crab Cake Benedict or sample their Crème Brulee French Toast, three giant slices of Texas toast dipped in crème Brulee batter and grilled. 

Their Lil’ Matey’s menu provides items for the children, including hamburgers, chicken tenders, grilled cheese, and popcorn shrimp, paired with fries. 

Coffee, tea, sodas, and lemonade are available, and there are plenty of cocktails, beer, and wine selections for the adults.
