Weather Report: August 3, 2013
It’s hard to believe that it’s already August, but the hot and steamy month is upon us.
Today’s high will be 86 degrees with a heat index of 93. Winds should be slight at 5 mph, but will provide a nice little breeze. There’s a 20 percent chance for a sprinkle or two, but things should be mostly dry.
It’s going to get really hot on Sunday as the high will be around 90 degrees with a heat index of almost 100 degrees. There’s still going to be a slight chance for some rain or a thunderstorm, but it should be dry for most of the day.
Temperatures will drop just a little on Monday to 86 degrees. There’s also a 40 percent chance for some rain or a thunderstorm.
On Tuesday, expect some monsoon-like weather. There’s a 70 percent chance for heavy rainfall, which could amount to 0.2 inches. Throughout the day, winds will pick up to almost 15 mph.
The stormy weather will last into Wednesday, but should not be as severe. Plus, the chance for rain will drop down to 50%.
Thankfully, the stormy weather should be out of the area on Thursday. The high on Thursday will be around 86 degrees with a heat index of 93 degrees. Expect wind to be 5-15 mph.
The hot weather will continue Friday with a high near 90. It should be dry throughout the day, but some rain may creep into the area by nightfall.
If you’re in the area this week, be sure to head out to Bay Creek Park and take advantage of the arts and crafts market. The market is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Wednesday. Visitors can find all kinds of deals on local and handmade paintings, crafts, knick knacks, and everything in between.
If you want to get off the island during the rainy days mentioned in the forecast, head to the Citadel Mall in West Ashley. It’s just about 55 minutes away and provides entertainment for the whole family. Plus, there’s a movie theater right next to the mall, so if shopping isn’t your thing, then you can always escape to the wonderful world of make believe.
