Weather Report: October 6, 2012

Either time sped up or we all traveled back a couple months because this past week here on Edisto was all summer. With highs close to 90 and heavy humidity, it felt just like July or August, and people were either completely delighted or really hoping fall temperatures would come back. Those people will all be glad to know that this coming week will offer a little bit of both.

The high temperatures will be sticking around throughout the weekend before dropping down into the high 70s.

The high for today is around 87 degrees with a low of 68 degrees. There is a 10 percent chance of rain, but the skies should be mostly sunny.

The high will drop down to 83 degrees on Sunday with a low of 59 degrees, also with a 10 percent chance of rain.

Crisp fall air will fall over the area on Monday with a high of 71 degrees and a low of 58. The forecast is calling for sunny skies with a light breeze, so be sure to get out and enjoy that weather. One of my favorite places to explore during the cooler weather is Botany Bay Plantation. It’s gorgeous all year round, but it’s especially beautiful when the temperatures are lower so that you can stay out longer.

Highs throughout the rest of the week will be right around 80 degrees with lows in the mid-60s. There could be some cloud cover on those days and a slight chance of rain.

If you’re in the area this weekend and want to do something a little different, the Blessing of the Pets will be held at 4 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Episcopal Church on the island located at 1589 Hwy 174.

You might also want to head up to the Halloween Extravaganza in Hollywood located at 5139 Gibson Road. This event features a haunted hayride and haunted house (both are not recommended for children under 10). Tickets to the event can be purchased online at http://www.stpaulsacademy.org/halloween2011.cfm and credit/debit cards are accepted online. The event is cash-only at the gate.

Gates to the event open at 6 pm.
